Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club (SMMC) is the only Club in Scotland that’s dedicated to all four-wheel motorsport disciplines. There are very few motorsport events held north of the border where SMMC is not playing a significant role with either our trained personnel or specialist equipment being involved.

We’re not just close to the action... we’re PART of it!

John Clayton

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Clayton, a dedicated Marshal, Radio Controller and Stage Commander who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John’s passing, so soon after his late wife Sandra, leaves a significant gap in the motorsport community. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

Sustainability in Action

Over recent months, we have been clearing out our equipment container, removing outdated or end-of-life medical and rescue kit - and rather than simply disposing of it, we have made sure it goes on to have a useful second life. The equipment is expected to be transported to Ukraine in the coming weeks, where it will contribute directly to life-saving efforts.

Rally Marshals Training - 25th April, Duns

Ahead of the iconic Jim Clark Rally in May, the Scottish Association of Motor Sports Clubs, Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club, and the rally organisers are running a training day on Saturday 25 April in Duns. Taking place from 9am to 4pm, the programme blends classroom learning with practical outdoor stage rally training. Open to both newcomers and experienced marshals, the day offers a great opportunity to build confidence, refine skills, and play a key role in making rallying possible.

WRC returns to the UK... with Rally Scotland in 2027

For Scotland’s marshals and volunteer officials, the creation of Rally Scotland, represents an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the world’s premier motorsport events. Scotland has a long tradition of hosting major rallies and providing experienced, highly respected volunteer teams who help deliver events safely and professionally.

Training Programme 2026

The 2026 Training Programme is now available at https://training.motorsport.scot/2026

All sessions are official Motorsport UK training modules and count towards grade maintenance or upgrade requirements for Motorsport UK registered marshals and licence holders following the Marshals’ Pathway.

Marshals and Radio Operators Required - Border Counties Rally, 14 March

A variety of marshalling and radio positions are available on the Border Counties Rally, something for everyone. Even if you have no experience, you will be paired with someone who has. Marshals are also required for the start / finish and service area in Newtown St Boswells.

Allan Matheson receives the 2025 Jim Clark Marshalling Award

SMMC member Allan Matheson has been presented with the Jim Clark Marshalling Award at the Motorsport Emergency and Medical Services Training Weekend held at Knockhill last weekend. This Award is the highest honour bestowed by the Club and is presented to a member who, in the sole judgement of the Trustees, has made an exceptional contribution to motorsport marshalling and safety in Scotland.
