SMMC News

Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club (SMMC) is the only Club in Scotland that’s dedicated to all four-wheel motorsport disciplines. There are very few motorsport events held north of the border where SMMC is not playing a significant role with either our trained personnel or specialist equipment being involved.

We’re not just close to the action... we’re PART of it!

Motorsport UK - Sport Development Consultations

Motorsport UK is in the process of sending out various surveys in relation to their Sport Development Delivery Plan. Specific surveys are being sent to volunteers (officials and marshals) - please take the time to respond, it's really important that Motorsport UK have an understanding of your needs.

Show us your face... we wanna see your face!

Since the Scottish government recommended yesterday that people cover their faces while in some enclosed public spaces, such as shops and public transport, a couple of SMMC members have pointed out that we appear to have shown uncanny prescience when we ordered our snoods for members.

Online training seminar series

The SAMSC (Scottish Association of Motor Sports Clubs) training team are running a series of online training seminars, live on Zoom. Each session starts at 10am on a Saturday morning and lasts for one hour.

Virtual Coffee Shop on Mondays and Trivia Quiz on Thursdays

We're now meeting (online) regularly on Mondays (11am) and alternate Thursdays (7pm) for half an hour. Pop in and have a chat if you want to and stay as long as you want. There's no agenda - it's just a chance to have a blether and set the world to rights, etc. There will always be someone from the SMMC Committee on the call, so if you do have specific questions or concerns, we're happy to answer them or point you in the right direction of who might be able to answer them.

Coronavirus in Scotland - Volunteer appeal begins

The Scottish Government is launching a national campaign in a bid to recruit an army of volunteers to help tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Volunteers could be asked to support the NHS, other public services and established charities, and will be matched to the needs of their local community.

Rally & Cross Country Marshals Training - Saturday 4th April

In conjunction with the Scottish Association of Motor Sports Clubs, we were due to be running Marshals’ training in Duns next weekend but as with all other events meeting face to face isn’t possible. But that doesn’t mean that we can't run the training... So, in a first for Scotland we are going to be running a shortened version of the training by Webinar.

Motorsport UK suspends all permits and Certificates of Exemption until at least 30th April

You will be aware that lots of motorsport events were cancelled or postponed yesterday and today - and with Motorsport UK finally announcing today that it’s suspending all organising permits and Certificates of Exemption until at least 30th April 2020, it’s clear that the motorsport calendar for 2020 is going to be bleak.
