SMMC member Allan Matheson has been presented with the Jim Clark Marshalling Award at the Motorsport Emergency and Medical Services Training Weekend held at Knockhill last weekend.
This Award is the highest honour bestowed by the Club and is presented to a member who, in the sole judgement of the Trustees, has made an exceptional contribution to motorsport marshalling and safety in Scotland.
First introduced in 1994, the Jim Clark Marshalling Award has been awarded to only 21 members of the Club, with Allan now joining this distinguished group. Read more about the Award here.
Presenting the Award, Garry Headridge, Chair of SMMC, said, "Allan has been a loyal and committed supporter of the Club and its activities for many years. He began marshalling around 1977, building on his interest in rally photography. Like many marshals, he started by testing the waters at Doune before progressing to Ingliston, Knockhill and numerous rally events.
"When Rescue operations were first established, Allan became involved immediately and still recalls the excitement when the Club acquired its first purpose built Rescue Unit, an Appleyard supplied Sherpa van.
"His professional career as a ship's Captain equipped him with a wide range of highly relevant skills, including communications, fire fighting, first aid, health and safety awareness, and experience in managing emergency situations.
"Over many years, Allan has consistently demonstrated a calm, reliable and highly experienced approach when responding to incidents. Now retired, he is able to dedicate even more time to the Club, where he continues to put his skills to good use by supporting fleet operations and contributing to training activities. His ongoing involvement remains of significant value to both the Rescue and Medical Group and the wider Club membership."
Congratulations Allan!
