I am delighted to announce that the SMMC Directors have appointed Dr John Harrington as the Club’s Medical Adviser.
The Medical Adviser is a member of the Committee and will work with the Directors on the clinical governance of the Rescue Team and the first aid training for Club members.
John’s a well-kent face in motorsport circles. He will be known to many of you - either as the CMO or medic on many events, or from hearing his dulcet tones on the radio as Tartan 87. He’s been involved in providing medical care for rallying in particular for the past 32 years.
John is also leading the development of our new Motorsport Medical Group - a community of interest aimed at doctors, nurses, paramedics, AHPs, rescue crews and anyone else that has an interest in sharing best practice and information about medicine and pre-hospital care in a motorsport setting.
You may recall from my email on 13 December that John is also on the Motorsport UK Medical Advisory Group, one of eight Club Members who have been appointed by the Motorsport UK Board to sit on some of the Specialist Committees and Advisory Groups.
This appointment is a very positive step forward for SMMC. I am pleased to welcome John to the Committee and look forward to how this role will develop over the coming months.
