SMMC Motorsport Rescue Units use a wide variety of specialist medical and extrication equipment, including hydraulic cutting tools to help get drivers out of cars quickly should the worst happen.
When we have to replace this invaluable kit, we don't just throw it away. Last year, we donated a full set of cutting, spreading and ramming equipment to the International Fire and Rescue Association (IFRA).
IFRA is a Scottish based charity that has been working for nearly 20 years to provide vehicles, equipment, advice and training to firefighters and emergency services in countries affected by war, civil unrest and those unable to provide a fire service of their own. Since its launch in 2002, IFRA's volunteers have been on 67 missions to 20 countries on 4 continents, and have sent 96 vehicles and 55 containers of life saving equipment.
IFRA have now taken our donated tools to Albania, along with vehicles and other equipment.
Alastair Gray, one of SMMC’s directors and the Rescue Units Co-ordinator, said, "We are very proud to support IFRA and I’m extremely happy that the our former rescue equipment is being put to such good use by firefighters in Albania."
