We are saddened to report the death on 19th June of Keith McGregor, one of the very first members of SMMC.
Keith had membership number 005, something of which he was very proud.
He participated in all aspects of motorsport, being a regular marshal at Ingliston, Doune and many rallies. He was also one of the first members to specialise in the Rescue Unit starting with the old Eadie Cairns Transit van, then in the Sherpa as pictured below on the Scottish Rally heading to an incident in Devilla Forest in 1979. Keith is in the passenger seat. Incidentally, you can see footage from that rally at https://fb.watch/lhyS1y4t16/, courtesy of VHS Rallies.
Keith was also the first co-driver for our Club President, David Swinton, when they ventured into stage rallies in an Avenger Tiger.
Through his work with Heriot Watt University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, he was involved in the construction of "ANGUS" (A Navigable General-purpose Underwater Surveyor), last seen in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, and made a huge contribution to what are now known as Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROVs). After moving to Aberdeen, he became involved with underwater survey work for the oil industry in the North Sea and worldwide, which he did for rest of his working life. This made it harder for him to enjoy his marshalling but Fintray Hillclimb gave him a chance to help out when he could.
He was always a great supporter of SMMC and had a great affection for the Club which allowed him to make many friends who will greatly miss him.
