The Scottish Summer Hill Rally runs over the weekend of 17-18 June and is based from Thirlestane Castle at Lauder, with special stages between Lauder and Galashiels and across towards Stow. Stages run twice each day and each stage needs a variety of volunteers for it to run. As well as timing marshals at the ends of the stages, the organisers need a large number of in stage marshals who can observe and report on competitors and their safety, as well as dealing with any minor issues that might arise.

As well as timing marshals at the ends of the stages, the organisers need a large number of in stage marshals who can observe and report on competitors and their safety, as well as dealing with any minor issues that might arise.

This will be an opportunity for people to drive cross-country across (often challenging) ground which is not usually available for people to access, as well as being a vital part of a high profile event.

Free camping is available alongside the service park at Thirlestane (where the BVAC Scottish Classic Car Show is running on the Sunday). There will be catering available at Thirlestane over the weekend, although there are also plenty of outlets in Lauder itself. For those on stage, best take a packed lunch...

No previous experience is necessary (although it would be welcomed) and the organisers recommend that volunteers register as marshals with Motorsport UK (which also means that you have access to the Motorsport UK Rewards and Benefits programme), which includes some online training. Novice marshalling crews are likely to be paired with more experienced crews who can support each other on stage (and are likely to be located on posts that are close together).

Some crews (who don’t already have a Motorsport UK radio) may also be issued with radios but training can be provided if you haven’t already got radio experience.
