It’s FIA Volunteers weekend.
Whether you stand on the bank at a race circuit, know the minimum quantity of extinguishant for a plumbed-in fire extinguisher in a rally car or how long you have to protest a decision under C5.2, you are a valued member of the motorsport team. Quite simply, without volunteers like you there would be no motorsport.
As a Club our members are actively involved with the work of Motorsport UK with members on the following Committees: Historic, Medical, Safety, and Sprint and Hill Climb along with Medical Expert Group, Marshal’s Advisory Group and Rescue and Recovery Advisory Group. We even have one of our youngest members (aged 13) on the national working group that is developing the Cadet Marshals Pathway.
As well as marshals, we have members who are licenced Clerks of the Course, Doctors and Paramedics, Stewards, Radio Controllers, Rescue Crew, Safety Car Crew, Scrutineers, Timekeepers and Training Instructors.
Regardless of our individual interests, we all have a common desire to provide a high-quality service to improve motorsport safety and to enjoy the craic!
This year, we have had members volunteering at well over 100 events, and a conservative estimate is that we have collectively committed around 150,000 hours working in all weathers and conditions.
On behalf of the Trustees of Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club, I want to thank you for everything that you do and the time and effort that you put into motorsport.
