Greenpower Education Trust is a UK based charity with an outstanding track record in kick starting careers in engineering. They help unlock potential and spark enthusiasm for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through the excitement of motorsport.
Teams of students aged nine to 25 take the Greenpower challenge – to design and build an electric car to race at Greenpower events. They are supplied with an appropriate kit which can be built in school, college or elsewhere and raced at motorsport venues around the country. Alternatively, older participants can design and build their own car to challenge regulations.
Events already confirmed for 2019 include:
- 29 March - East Fortune, East Lothian
- 14 June - Grampian Transport Museum, Alford
- 22 September - East Fortune, East Lothian
Approximately ten marshals are required for each event, primarily to assist in the rescuing of broken-down cars from the track and getting them onto the rescue trailer to be taken back to the pits. There has only been one know accident in the last four years when a car ran into the back of another.
If you can assist, or simply want more information, please contact Alan Slade, the Greenpower Ambassador for Scotland, either by email (Alan.Slade@greenpower.co.uk) or mobile (07852 670215).
Negotiations are continuing with a further venue towards the north of Scotland. Details will be provided in due course.
