If you haven't already done so, we would urge Club members to respond to the Transport Scotland consultation on proposals to enable closed-road motorsport.
The consultation can be found here and the deadline for responses is midnight on Monday (28 January 2019).
As part of their own response, Motorsport UK wrote:
Closed-road motorsport events can be a safe and exciting addition to a local community’s events calendar, bringing the community together and giving it an economic boost with minimal associated disruption; usually it is a small section of road that is closed at any one time, and for a limited time only. As our experiences of events such as the Jim Clark Rally and Mull Rally show, closed-road events also create fantastic opportunities for businesses such as hotels, pubs and restaurants to benefit greatly from the arrival of thousands of participants and spectators.
New powers enabling closed-road motorsport came into effect in England in April 2017, and in Wales in February 2018. Closed-road motorsport was already possible across Northern Ireland, where road closure orders have made famous events possible for decades.
The consultation takes 2-3 minutes to complete. If you wish to provide a more detailed response, you could take a lead from Motorsport UK's own submission, which can be found here.
SMMC are recommending that Club members who are willing to do so should support the proposals.
