Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally – Saturday 13 September 2025

Date:

Saturday 13 September 2025

Information:

The Galloway Hills Rally has been a highlight in the forests of southwest Scotland since 1974, and this year’s event on Saturday 13th September marks its 50th Anniversary. The rally will run through the scenic Galloway forests of Black Loch and Cairn Edward, with each stage tackled twice in one direction and once in reverse. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us as radio operators or marshals, helping to ensure the event runs safely and smoothly.

This year, the Service Area will be located on hardstanding ground in the East Ayrshire town of Dalmellington, which will also host both the Start and Finish of the event.

With the first car scheduled to begin Stage One shortly after 11:00, the rally will have a later start than many other events.

A number of radio operators are required to provide safety communications – please register at https://www.smmc.org.uk/events/2025/armstrong-galloway-hills-rally-saturday-13-september-2025/. Even if you’re unable to attend, a quick response would be greatly appreciated, as it helps us plan effectively.

On stage marshals are also required – please register HERE if you would like to assist.

Co-promoters Solway, Machars, and East Ayrshire Car Clubs are excited to welcome all volunteers to join in celebrating fifty years of competition and camaraderie at “the Hills.”

If you have any questions, please contact garry@smmc.org.uk or call 07780 602480.

Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally – Saturday 16 September 2023

Dates:

Saturday 16 September 2023

Information:

The Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally will bring a new twist to the 49th running of the event on 16 September when the event will offer a brand-new format where competitors can compete in both daylight and night stages on the very same day, should they wish to take up the option of the latter.

Competitors are being offered three stages in the stunning Galloway forests, before heading to a centralised service area at Talnotry, close to the forestry action. The stages will then be repeated, providing competitors with a total of 43 special stage miles linked by minimal road mileage.

All competitors will then have an option to head back out to the three stages in the dark – giving a total distance of 64.5 stage miles in one day.

The outline event format includes:

  • Spectator friendly Saturday Morning Pre-Event Scrutineering in Castle Douglas town centre from 10am onwards.
  • The event itself will start from the Service Area at 4pm, with six stages completed by 7:45pm.
  • Leg 1 – 43 stage miles across six stages, linked by just 36 road miles in total.
  • Competitors wishing to contest an additional loop of stages in the dark will then restart from service for Leg 2, with all cars scheduled back to the finish by 11pm.

The organisers appreciate this makes for a longer than normal day but hope the chance to see competitors three times including in the dark will make it worthwhile. Every Radio crew attending the 2023 Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally will receive a goody bag with a gift and lunch.

A number of Radio Operators and Controllers are required to provide safety cover. It would be helpful if you would also let me know if you are unavailable.

Further details are available from the event website: http://gallowayhillsrally.co.uk/all-new-format-for-the-49th-armstrong-galloway-hills-rally/
