Well, that’s been a crazy couple of days, eh?!
You will be aware that lots of motorsport events were cancelled or postponed yesterday and today - and with Motorsport UK finally announcing today that it’s suspending all organising permits and Certificates of Exemption until at least 30th April 2020, it’s clear that the motorsport calendar for 2020 is going to be bleak.
The next few months will be challenging for the sport and for us all individually in different aspects of our life.
In the meantime, SMMC are working with SAMSC to get some online learning organised and we will update you when we know more about that.
In addition, the Club now has an audio and video conferencing software subscription which means that you can log in from anywhere on any device and have a virtual meeting with up to 100 people (with video too if your device is capable).
The SMMC Committee is still meeting next week (probably remotely, using the software mentioned above) to continue the business agenda - which normally includes many varied items including Club promotion and communications, finances, the Motorsport Radio Group, safeguarding, membership issues, the SCIO, rescue units, the Motorsport Medical Group, training, social events (including the Club's 50th Anniversary celebrations) and more. As you will see it's a very varied programme and we just wanted to highlight that a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to maintain and improve the Club.
We will keep you up to date with developments as and when we find out - we have introduced a couple of measures to help keep you informed:
- One central go-to point for information: https://www.smmc.org.uk/coronavirus
- Updates by text, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc.
- Our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages are updated regularly.
Thank you for your continued support of the sport and the Club - we really do appreciate everything you do.
